Hobart Highlights

Hobart, Australia

Hobart is Tasmania’s capital city. This city sits in perfect harmony with the natural beauty of the surrounding Mt Wellington and the Derwent Estuary. Hobarts offers many galleries and museums for the art lovers as well as mountains and plenty of hiking tracks. If you have chance to visit Hobart you will have plenty to do and will get lost in time in the city.

1.       Mt Wellington

Mt Wellington is a soaring mountain that looks out over Hobart. The mountain is roughly 20 min from the CBD. If you have a car you can drive up to the summit, you could book a shuttle bus to the summit or get the bus to Fern Tree at the base and hike up. Whatever your option you will have an amazing experience and hopefully you will have spectacular views with no clouds. On your way down the mountain you could stop and visit the Cascade Brewery which is Australia’s oldest operating brewery.

The Mona has exceptional ancient and modern art and also features many cafes. Mona is located 20 min by ferry from the CBD or a 25 min bus ride away. It is an easy attraction to visit.

3.       Salamanca Place

If you happen to be in Hobart on a Saturday you can visit the Salamanca Markets on the waterfront of Salamanca Place. The markets adjoin Battery Point which has a range of galleries, bars and boutique shops.

4.       Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary

Located 30 min from the CBD. You can visit native wildlife that has been rescued by Bonorong as a rehabilitation and sanctuary for the injured animals. There is a large open grassland were you can feed many kangaroos. You can also see wombats, snakes, birds and even the Tasmanian devil.

5.       Day Trip to Freycinet NP

Take a day trip to the east coast of Tasmania to the Freycinet NP. You can visit the iconic Wineglass Bay by heading to the lookout, the beach or taking the climb up Mt Amos. You can wander around to Sleepy Bay and Honeymoon Bay. At the edge of the national park you can head to Cape Tourville to have a lovely view of the Hazards and Wineglass Bay.

6.       Day Trip to Bay of Fires NP

Another east coast adventure to the Bay of Fires NP. The Bay of Fires is famous for its white sandy beaches, clear water and the orange lichen on the boulders. You can visit many rocky gullies, secluded beaches for snorkelling and surfing. My favourite locations on the Bay of Fires includes Cosy Corner North and Binalong Bay.
